Bike MS 2017

1 minute read

Justin rode from Independence to the Garmin Headquarters tacking another 34 miles to a 100 mile day. He got to the start just as we were getting to head off all smiles and laughs like always. We rode hard in the morning with Justin doing more than his share of the pulling. Our group got separated at the lunch stop as Justin ate 2 hamburgers, a veggie burger and a coke for the road. The rest of us were pretty worn out by that point, and it showed as the pace slowed over the next several miles to the 100 mile turn-off. I think we all must have looked a little tired too, the staff helping at the turn ran out to warn us the turn was for the 100 mile route. Turning into the wind Justin only ever had encouraging words and convinced us all that we could do this no matter how tired we were. He was right of course, we all took turns pulling (even Justin hopped on the back several times to rest) but we finished strong. He could always bring out that extra bit of strength you would normally keep in reserve from everyone he rode with.

Day 2 was wet and cold so they closed the longer routes. Justin spent the day pushing whoever was suffering at that moment to make sure we all made it back together. After finishing with us he rode back out to help Cheryl Hicks make it in. He helped so many people finish the ride better than they would have otherwise.
